Jesse Powell (b. about 1780; d. 1840-50), son of Dempsey and Pleasant (Benton) Powell, married Mildred Brown (b. in Virginia in 1800; d. after June 30, 1850), daughter of John and Rebecca (Dupre) Brown. In 1828 he was living within two hundred yards of Wake Forest Pleasant Grove Academy (now Wake Forest College).2897

1. John D. Powell (b. July 31, 1815; d. March 2, 1855), married Delia Hinton (b. Aug. 15, 1822; d. March 17, 1854).
2. Rebecca Powell, married Captain Elija Hilliard.
3. Dr. Thomas B. Powell (b. 1822), married Mrs. Caroline Gilliam, and later Adaline Claud; was a physician and farmer; lived at Emporia, Va.
4. Mary E. Powell (b. 1825), married Colonel S. S. Biddle, of Fort Barnwell, N. C.
5. Joe Powell (b. 1825-30), married Mary McGlenry; lived at Emporia, Va.; a farmer.
6. Helen Powell (b. 1829), married Bedford Brown, a lawyer, of Sunbury, N. C.
7. Agnes Powell (b. 1832), married William H. Riddick, a farmer, of Gatesville, N. C.
8. Georgette Powell (b. 1834), married John Morgan, a farmer, of Gatesville, N. C.
9. Rosa Powell, died at about ten years of age.
